VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - A principal and a teacher in Virginia Beach have been cleared of assault charges brought by a student’s mother.

The Virginian-Pilot reports two Rosemont Elementary School educators had been accused of mistreating 7-year-old Eric Chapman in June 2017. Chapman’s mother, LaTasha Holloway, filed charges shortly after.

Eric testified Thursday that he’d been dragged from a classroom and had his head pushed down after he disrupted class.

But special education teacher Alison Williams said she had tried to calm Eric in class when he began acting out, but he didn’t respond.

Principal Cari Hall said the boy then refused to walk to her office, so she carried him there in a bear hug, as she was trained to do.
