DALLAS (AP) - Prosecutors say a man convicted of helping torture a victim found slain in 2016 in Dallas faces up to life in prison for his role in the alleged dispute over a woman.

The Dallas Morning News reports the penalty phase begins Monday for 40-year-old Ricky Moreno. Jurors on Friday convicted Moreno of aggravated kidnapping in the death of 28-year-old Jonathan Paul Gutierrez.

Investigators say Gutierrez was tortured, pistol-whipped and had bleach poured on his face.

Authorities say another man awaits trial on charges of capital murder and aggravated assault family violence in the death.

Martin Armijo Jr. is accused of orchestrating the attack. Investigators say the victim was an ex-boyfriend of a woman Armijo also previously dated and wanted to win back. Armijo allegedly beat the woman after Gutierrez died.
