ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Tyler Nelson had 27 points and 10 rebounds and No. 6 seed Fairfield jumped out early and cruised to 90-77 victory over third-seeded Niagara on Saturday night in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinal.
Fairfield (16-15) will play seventh-seeded Quinnipiac in a Sunday semifinal.
Nelson was 8 of 16 from the field, made four 3-pointers and all seven of his free-throw attempts. Ferron Flavors Jr. added 18 points and four 3s for the Stags, who shot 12 of 24 from long range. Wassef Methnani added 15 points, Jesus Cruz had 12 and Jonathan Kasibabu 10.
Dominic Robb had 29 points and 12 rebounds to lead Niagara (19-13). Kahlil Dukes added 21 points.
The Stags had a double-digit lead midway through the first half and a 46-34 halftime advantage. Niagara pulled to 54-48 but didn’t get closer.
