NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - Virginia’s coast is bracing for possible flooding in the wake of the nor’easter that slammed into the East Coast.
The Virginian-Pilot reported that high-wind warnings remain in effect through Saturday while coastal flooding warnings will last until 5 p.m. Sunday. The worst flooding is expected to take place during Saturday’s two high tides.
The nor’easter brought heavy winds, cutting power to 500,000 customers across the state. In Virginia’s Hampton Roads region, flights were cancelled and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel was closed.
Ships also weren’t allowed to enter the Chesapeake Bay. No vessels heavier than 2,000 gross tons were permitted to move within The Port of Virginia without permission from the port’s captain. The restrictions are expected to last until about noon on Saturday.
