CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Jon Davis scored 28 points with six 3-pointers and 12 of 12 free throws and Charlotte snapped a 15-game skid by beating Florida Atlantic 85-78 in Saturday’s Conference USA regular-season finale for both teams.
Austin Ajukwa scored 23 points and Andrien White added 17 for the 49ers (6-23, 2-16), who shot 44.4 percent from the field and made 30 of 32 free throws.
After 16 lead changes, Ajukwa’s jumper and 3-point play put Charlotte up 63-59 and the 49ers led by six on his 3 with 7:12 left. Davis’ free throws capped a 7-2 run for a nine-point Charlotte lead, but FAU closed to 79-75 on Jailyn Ingram’s layup with 43 seconds left. Davis and Ajukwa combined for six free throws from there to seal it.
Charlotte led 40-36 at halftime after eight lead changes and five ties behind Davis’ 17 points.
Ronald Delph scored 19 points with nine rebounds and Justin Massey added 16 points with four 3s for the Owls (12-18, 6-12).
