CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - The New Hampshire Department of Corrections says four inmates in the state prison system have earned journeymen apprenticeship certificates in furniture and upholstery through a new program.
The four completed and graduated from a 6,000-hour program to become eligible for a U.S. Department of Labor apprenticeship.
The program is provided through the department’s Correctional Industries Program. It will provide graduates with an advantage in establishing careers once they are released from the department’s custody.
In 2016, the latest numbers available, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projected a 3.5 percent growth in employment in the upholstery field with a 1 percent growth in wages.
