SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A Utah man who was accused of assaulting a teenage driver after the 16 year old crashed into a fence has been sentenced to 30 days in jail.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports 53-year-old Malcolm Wayne Mcelyea was sentenced last week following a trial in January where the jury acquitted him of four felony counts of third-degree aggravated assault.

The West Jordan man was convicted of misdemeanor charges of reckless driving and giving false information to a police officer.

According to court documents, the teen crashed an SUV into a fence in September 2015 and left the scene. Mcelyea witnessed the crash and followed the teen, ramming the SUV with his Jeep.

Mcelyea was also sentenced to two years of probation and an anger management class.
