President Trump called Roseanne Barr on Wednesday night to congratulate her on the comeback of her sitcom, The New York Times reported.

The reboot of the 1990s show “Roseanne” debuted with a whopping 18 million viewers this week, said White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders. The premise centers around a working-class family, with the same cast and characters as the original show, but Ms. Barr now plays an avid Trump supporter. The actress is also a fan of the president in real life.

Ms. Barr said that she has known Mr. Trump for years and that the call was “friendly.”

“He’s just happy for me,” she said on ABC News’ “Good Morning America.”

“So it was just a friendly conversation about work and television and ratings,” she added.

Ms. Barr previously said she felt the polarization after Mr. Trump’s victory needed to be addressed in a different way than the back-and-forth criticism.

“I felt that was very real and something that needed to be discussed, and especially about polarization in the family and people actually hating other people for the way they voted, which I feel is not American,” Ms. Barr said at the Television Critics Association in January.

Mr. Trump was impressed with the high ratings of the show.
