Pheonix Copley has had to do a lot of driving between Washington and Hershey, Pennsylvania, lately.

The AHL goaltender was recalled for the second time this month as Philipp Grubauer is suffering from a “little tweak.”

Copley spent four days with the Capitals when regular starter Braden Holtby was day-to-day with a knee injury. Philipp Grubauer started in net while he served as back-up, and Copley was re-assigned to the Hershey Bears March 26.

One day later, he was called back.

“Trust me, we’re ultra-sensitive right now, so I’m not taking any chances on the goalies right now,” coach Barry Trotz said Tuesday. “That’s one area (where) I’m not going to hesitate to bring Pheonix back.”

Holtby had a strong start to the season but went 2-5-2 in an uncharacteristically poor February. Grubauer was 6-1-0 in his last seven starts.

The Capitals return to home ice Wednesday night to host the New York Rangers.
