PHOENIX (AP) - The executive who oversees Arizona’s three public universities as president of the state Board of Regents says she is stepping down later this year.
Eileen Klein made the announcement Monday. She said in a letter that she plans to take some time off “before deciding what my next adventure will be.”
Klein was appointed to the role overseeing the university enterprise in 2013 after serving as former Gov. Jan. Brewer’s chief of staff and budget director. She previously was an executive in the health care industry.
Klein oversaw belt-tightening and tuition increases as the universities struggled with state budget cuts.
Regents Chair Bill Ridenour praised Klein’s leadership in advancing the university’s strategic plan for raising university quality and contributions to the state. The board will chose a replacement for Klein.
