SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A Utah man says his neighbor yelled a racial slur at his African-American son and used a stun device on him when he confronted him about his language.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports Mike Waldvogel testified on Tuesday that his 8-year-old has been nervous ever since the 2016 incident with Mark Porter at his trial in U.S. District Court.

Porter has been charged with interference with housing rights based on the victim’s race.

Waldvogel describes himself as Latin American and African-American.

He says his son is African-American.

Defense attorneys say the incident was not fueled by racism, but by tension from previous problems with the boy while living a Draper apartment complex.
