RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - GE Aviation plans to add nearly 150 jobs in western North Carolina.

Gov. Roy Cooper said Thursday that the company will create 146 jobs over the next four years at plants in Asheville and West Jefferson.

GE Aviation makes aircraft engines and parts and will spend nearly $105 million on expanding its operations in ceramic parts.

Most of the new jobs, 131, will be at the Asheville plant. The other 15 will be in West Jefferson.

GE Aviation currently employees more than 1,700 people in North Carolina.

Salaries for the new jobs are expected to average more than $48,000 annually.
