BALTIMORE (AP) - Newly confirmed Baltimore Police Commissioner Darryl De Sousa has appointed a former Drug Enforcement Administration official to oversee strategic and support services.
The Baltimore Sun reports that the department announced Gary Tuggle’s appointment as deputy commissioner Friday. Tuggle is a former Baltimore police officer who joined the DEA in 1992, holding leadership positions in Baltimore, Chicago, Philadelphia and Washington.
De Sousa had initially named Andre Bonaparte as deputy commissioner of support services and Thomas Cassella as deputy commissioner of operations. An internal document containing seemingly sustained allegations against Cassella was then leaked, placing his appointment on hold. The department later said the allegations were false, but that Cassella would not take the position.
Bonaparte now oversees operations.
