The Washington Redskins are set to have a busy Monday.
The Redskins will host three free agents — defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins, cornerback Orlando Scandrick and outside linebacker Pernell McPhee — at the team’s facility in Ashburn, Virginia, according to multiple reports. All three players would fill a need, if signed.
Hankins is the best player of the three, and still in his prime at age 25. He was recently released by the Indianapolis Colts, just one year into a three-year deal signed last offseason. Hankins, though, was still productive with the Colts, and was cut because the Colts are switching schemes.
The Redskins pursued Hankins last offseason, as well. Hankins, who spent four years in the NFC East with the New York Giants, is a particularly strong run defender and is capable of playing each spot along the defensive line.
Scandrick, meanwhile, could be the Redskins’ nickel corner, a spot the team needs to fill after trading away cornerback Kendall Fuller to the Kansas City Chiefs. The 31-year-old spent the past nine season with the Dallas Cowboys. He would be the second veteran cornerback the Redskins have hosted after former Giant Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie visited last week.
McPhee, 30, is visiting the Redskins after three years with the Chicago Bears. McPhee has been an effective situational pass rusher, despite dealing with injuries over the years. The Redskins failed to re-sign Trent Murphy and haven’t agreed to terms with Junior Galette, so there’s a need at pass rush. Washington likes to keep their pass rushers fresh by rotating them.
McPhee, who had four sacks in 13 games last season, was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in 2011 and left for Chicago in 2015.
The NFL Network first reported the visits.
