DOVER, Del. (AP) - About 1,700 Delaware state employees were paid over $100,000 in 2017, including big names like Gov. John Carney and Chief Justice Leo Strine Jr., but also many police officers and school employees.

The Delaware State News reports that data from the Office of Management and Budget shows that 201 people made $150,000 or more. Of those, 70 worked for the Delaware State Police, 55 were judges and 39 were employed by a school district.

First on the list of top earners was Delaware Technical Community College President Mark Brainard, who earned nearly $249,000.

Chief Medical Examiner Gary Collins made slightly more than $243,000. Collins was hired in 2014 after the state created a new Division of Forensic Science following drug thefts in the now-defunct Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
