ST. ALBANS, Vt. (AP) - Vermont Attorney General T.J. Donovan says his office will not prosecute two St. Albans police officers involved in a shooting that injured a 26-year-old after he fired shots from an assault rifle.

Donovan’s office said Friday he had completed his investigation into the Jan. 2 incident after reviewing material provided by the Vermont State Police.

Franklin County State’s Attorney Jim Hughes conducted an independent review and also declined to file charges against the officers.

The man who was shot, Jack LaPlant, has pleaded not guilty to a variety of charges.

St. Albans police say officers responded to a report of a man who was carrying an assault rifle and firing shots.

Citing the ongoing case against LaPlant, Donovan refused to release details of the investigation.
