RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A new study has concluded that Loudoun County is the healthiest locality in Virginia and Petersburg is the least.
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute released the ninth annual County Health Rankings on Wednesday.
The study looked at data including tobacco use, access to care, education, housing and transit, and air and water quality.
In the healthiest category, Loudoun was followed by Arlington County, Fairfax County, Falls Church and Poquoson. Following Petersburg in the poorest health rankings are Martinsville, Emporia, Galax and Covington.
Robert Hicks is the Virginia Department of Health’s deputy commissioner for community health services. He tells the Richmond Times-Dispatch the rankings are beneficial in informing not only the department’s health districts but communities at large.
