TACOMA, Wash. (AP) - A man accused of killing three people in a hit-and-run crash on Interstate 5 in Lakewood has been charged with vehicular homicide and failing to remain at the scene of a fatal crash.
The Seattle Times reports 23-year-old Montrell Tormel Red was charged Friday in Pierce County Superior Court.
Court documents say he was texting and had used marijuana and taken Xanax before the crash.
Police say Red attempted to pass a car, lost control and slammed into a Honda CRV, causing it to crash into a barrier and roll.
Prosecutors say the three people inside were killed. They’ve been identified as Yanez Martin Rodriguez of Longview, Sherry Rodriguez of Kelso, and Jaime Pelayo Pelayo of Kelso.
Prosecutors say Red left the crash and was arrested later.
It wasn’t clear if he had an attorney.
