HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Data shows nearly twice as many Eversource customers had their electricity shut off for non-payments in 2017 than in 2015.

WTNH-TV reports data from the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority shows 52,298 accounts were disconnected in 2017 compared to 28,851 in 2015.

The news comes as Republican State Sen. Len Suzio called for an investigation into what he says is misleading electricity rate information on Eversource bills. Company spokesman Mitch Gross says the problem is due to a third-party supplier giving them wrong information.

Gross could not confirm if any customers that were inaccurately charged were also disconnected for non-payment.

Instead, the company says the increase in disconnected accounts could be due to the rising price of energy. Gross encourages anyone who has problems with their bill to contact the company.
