Kellyanne Conway said Thursday that President Trump would like to do away with gun-free zones as part of the upcoming bill to address school safety and firearms.
“The president has made very clear in all these sessions, on live TV for all to see, that he believes that we’re just inviting more violence by keeping these gun-free,” Mrs. Conway, counselor to the president, said on Fox News referring to schools.
She said the president likes aspects of both the so-called Toomey-Manchin and Cornyn-Murphy plans, both of which aim to address problems in the background check system. Mr. Trump met with lawmakers from both the House and Senate on both sides of the political aisle to discuss the issue of gun control.
“There are many different proposals on the table, but that’s what a democracy allows,” Mrs. Conway said.
She said Mr. Trump is committed to banning bump stocks and will do that on his own, as he said in the meeting with lawmakers.
“This is the president who seems to keep the promise of many different presidents,” she said.
