Former Vice President Joseph R. Biden plans to hit the campaign trail next week with Democratic candidate Conor Lamb ahead of his special election showdown with Republican Rick Saccone in western Pennsylvania.
Mr. Biden plans to appear rallies with union members at the Carpenters Training Center and with Lamb supporters a week before voters head to the polls.
“Conor Lamb will be a champion for the working people of southwestern Pennsylvania,” Mr. Biden said in a press release. “He’s not afraid to say the word ’union.’ I know he will stand up for the people of his district, whether it means protecting Social Security and Medicare, or fighting to create good, quality jobs you can support a family on.”
The race in the 18th Congressional District is being viewed as a bellwether for the midterm elections.
President Trump won the district by nearly 20 points. Republicans, though, are not taking anything for granted and have invested millions of dollars into defining Mr. Lamb as too liberal for the district.
