WILTON, N.Y. (AP) - An award-winning author of a biography of Ulysses S. Grant is giving a talk on the Civil War hero at the very place where the nation’s 18th president died in 1885.
Ronald C. White, of Pasadena, California, will give a lecture at 3 p.m. Saturday at the U.S. Grant Cottage State Historic Site in the town of Wilton, just north of Saratoga Springs. His talk is based on his 2016 best-selling biography, “American Ulysses: A Life of Ulysses S. Grant.”
White will discuss three episodes from Grant’s life: the Civil War, his presidency and his memoir writing in the days before he died of throat cancer at the Mount McGregor cottage.
The preserved cottage is now a historic site located next door to a closed state prison.
