NASHUA, N.H. (AP) - A church in New Hampshire is collecting donations to help the thousands of people left homeless from a destructive volcanic eruption in Guatemala.

The eruption of the Volcano of Fire Sunday surprised residents in nearby Guatemalan mountain communities, which had little time to evacuate. At least 75 people have died and over 12,000 people have been evacuated.

WMUR-TV reports officials with Nashua’s Gate City Church said Wednesday they have been coordinating the delivery of supplies to people affected by the eruption. The church has a mission in nearby Antigua, where church officials have been sending truckloads of supplies.

Church officials say another relief team is scheduled to fly to Guatemala next week with water filtration systems and medical supplies.
