RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) - A parolee accused of slashing his girlfriend’s face several times with a shard of broken glass has pleaded not guilty in Southern California.

The Press-Enterprise reports the woman suffered severe lacerations in the assault May 31 at a home in Riverside.

Ricardo Arredondo was arrested at a motel three days later on suspicion of mayhem, domestic violence and assault with a deadly weapon.

The newspaper said Wednesday that the victim received more than 25 sutures for her facial wounds.

The 26-year-old Arredondo is being held without bail. He was ordered back to court June 14.
