ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Republican candidate for New York governor Marc Molinaro says he’ll push term limit legislation for statewide office holders and state lawmakers if he’s elected in November.
The Dutchess County executive told reporters in Albany on Thursday that if he defeats two-term Democrat Andrew Cuomo, he’ll introduce a measure calling for two four-year terms for the offices of governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general and comptroller.
Molinaro, who served two terms in the Assembly, says the measure would limit legislators to up to six two-year terms.
The GOP candidate says term limits would be “a long overdue start to restore honesty and integrity to state government.”
Molinaro is in his second four-year term as county executive.
Cuomo has unsuccessfully sought a constitutional amendment imposing term limits on statewide elected officials and lawmakers.
