One night after mocking President Trump as a petulant baby with murder on his mind, late-night host Stephen Colbert solicitously asked Bill Clinton whether the former president wanted a mulligan on his notorious “Today” show interview on Monica Lewinsky.

On Tuesday’s “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” program, the liberal host referenced the Democratic ex-president’s interview with Craig Melvin, in which Mr. Clinton got visibly angry and engaged in revisionist history on a variety of topics.

“I noticed you didn’t enjoy that entire interview, I want you to enjoy this one,” Mr. Colbert said. “Would you like a do-over on that answer?”

Mr. Colbert finished his question by suggesting ways Mr. Clinton should answer.

“Do you understand why some people thought that was a tone-deaf response to his questions about the #MeToo movement and how you might reflect on your behavior 20 years ago and how that reflection may change based on what you learned thru the #MeToo movement,” the host suggested.

The tone was rather different Monday evening.

In his opening monologue, Mr. Colbert condescendingly read aloud a tweet from Mr. Trump about the scope of a president’s pardon power in a baby-ish voice.

“Oooh! Oooh! I love riddles,” he then said with faked-gleeful tone. “I know this one! It’s because if you bring the grain over the river first, the fox will collude with the Russians to get the chicken.”

Mr. Colbert then went on to compare Mr. Trump to a murderous surgeon.

“But why are you bringing it up, if you’re not gonna do it? That’s like a surgeon saying, ’It’s just a routine appendectomy. Also, I could kill you at anytime, but why would I do that? Okay, now count backwards from 10,’ ” Mr. Colbert said.
