BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - Inmates at the North Dakota State Penitentiary in Bismarck are planting with a unique purpose.

A $10,000 grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation has allowed inmates to create a big garden on the prison’s property. The inmates are tending the garden to help the homeless or those who don’t have enough food.

KXMB-TV says the produce the inmates are growing will go to Ministry on the Margin and Ruth Meier’s Hospitality House in Bismarck and the Great Plains Food Bank.
