SAN DIEGO (AP) - A woman has pleaded not guilty to human smuggling after authorities said two Chinese women were found locked in the trunk of her car in San Diego.

The San Diego Union-Tribune says the Chinese women were rescued April 13 after someone called 911 to report hearing noises coming from the trunk of a car parked near the border with Mexico.

The women told investigators they paid to be smuggled into the U.S. via Tijuana.

Three weeks later, authorities arrested 27-year-old Cindy Lenette Gutierrez on suspicion of human smuggling.
