MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont officials say it could be eight weeks before all the state employees are back at work in their Montpelier offices that are being cleaned up following a weekend fire.
The Times Argus reports the Saturday fire started in the wall of a cubicle. The cause of the fire is believed to be electrical.
Police say the sprinkler system helped extinguish the fire, but the water damaged multiple floors.
About 1,000 state employees work in the Deane C. Davis Building in space leased from the National Life Insurance Company.
Officials say workers with the Agency of Transportation and the Agency of Natural Resources have been relocated or are telecommuting.
National Life Insurance spokesman Ross Sneyd says the company is working with the state to coordinate repairs.
