SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - The Utah Department of Natural Resources is moving forward with the appointment of a former legislator who sponsored a resolution dismissive of the science supporting climate change.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports Kerry Gibson will serve as one of the department’s deputy directors.
Gibson’s appointment was announced in December, but was put on hold when police in Ogden opened an investigation into his role in a flood-mitigation project on the Weber River near his family’s farm.
Gibson’s lawyers last month said the Davis County attorney’s office ended a review without pressing charges.
Department of Natural Resources executive director Mike Styler in a statement issued Monday said he believed from the beginning that Gibson “would be cleared of any and all wrongdoing.”
Gibson was most recently a Weber County commissioner.
