LAS VEGAS (AP) - A judge in Las Vegas has set bail at $75,000 for a man facing charges stemming from the shooting death of his 2-year-old son.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports Justice of the Peace Melanie Tobiasson on Tuesday called the death of Messiah Logan “tragic” but “avoidable.”

Defense attorney Doug Crawford has said 26-year-old Michael Logan was asleep and did nothing wrong when his son was shot and killed by another child Wednesday.

Crawford told the judge on Tuesday Logan was unlikely to post bail before his son’s funeral scheduled for June 15.

He is being held on a parole violation and charges of child abuse or neglect and possession of a gun by a prohibited person.

Authorities say Logan’s son was with four young children when he was fatally shot.
