JACKSON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - A spinning gondola ride at a New Jersey amusement park abruptly stopped spinning over the weekend, leaving 32 passengers trapped up in the air.

NJ.com reports the SkyScreamer ride at Six Flags Great Adventure is supposed to spin passengers around at about 40 miles an hour, but safety sensors applied an emergency stop mid-ride on Sunday afternoon. A spokeswoman for the Jackson Township park says passengers were stuck in the air for about 15 minutes before park officials got them back on the ground.

The ride remained closed Monday as inspectors checked it. The ride first opened in 2012.
