ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - The city of Albany is marking the 50th anniversary of Robert F. Kennedy’s assassination with a round table discussion on his legacy and the ringing of bells.

Two Irish songs - “Danny Boy” and “The Minstrel Boy” - were played on Albany City Hall’s 90-year-old carillon bells early Tuesday afternoon.

Kennedy, the descendant of Irish immigrants, was a U.S. senator from New York when he was shot just after midnight on June 5, 1968, inside a Los Angeles hotel after winning California’s Democratic presidential primary. He died the next day.

The Irish American Heritage Museum in downtown Albany will host a discussion Tuesday evening on Bobby Kennedy’s life and legacy.

Panelists include former state Assemblyman and historian Jack McEneny, and Tom Keefe of Albany’s Robert F. Kennedy Democratic Club.
