MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Thousands of people are rallying in downtown Minneapolis to protest U.S. immigration policies as demonstrations are held nationwide.
The Star Tribune reports that marchers poured into the Minneapolis Convention Center area Saturday afternoon with signs protesting the Trump administration’s immigration policies.
Demonstrators planned to march toward the Hennepin County jail with stops for speakers in between before returning to the Convention Center.
Activist Ben Ramirez tells the newspaper he’s elated about the turnout, calling the day’s rallies a “tipping point.”
The march was organized by social justice groups. A contingent of participants is also pushing for the end of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Demonstrations are also being held in other Minnesota cities including Duluth, Mankato, Rochester and Lanesboro, which has fewer than 1,000 residents.
