PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - The Latest on police shooting near Portland State University (all times local):
5:40 p.m.
Portland State University officials have identified the two officers involved in the fatal shooting of a man outside a sports bar near campus.
Officials said Friday that university officers Shawn McKenzie and James Dewey were placed on administrative leave while city police investigate.
The name of the man killed has not been released.
The Portland Police Bureau says detectives believe the university officers were nearby when they became aware of a disturbance outside the Cheerful Tortoise early Friday.
Detectives believe the officers contacted the people believed to be involved in the disturbance and shortly thereafter broadcast that shots had been fired.
City police say a man died at the scene.
Authorities haven’t released further information about what led up to the shooting.

A witness to a fatal shooting in Portland says officers shot a man who tried to break up a fight.
The gunfire happened early Friday outside the Cheerful Tortoise, a sports bar near Portland State University.
Video sent by a bystander to KOIN-TV shows university officers at the scene of a fight involving several men. During the scuffle, someone yelled there’s a gun. Then shots were fired.
Witness Keyaira Smith tells KGW-TV the man who died was trying to de-escalate the fight. While doing so, a gun holstered on his hip fell out. He went to pick it up and was shot.
The Portland Police Bureau is handling the investigation. Sgt. Chris Burley confirms that university officers responded to a disturbance outside the bar. He has not provided details about how the shooting unfolded.
