President Trump is speculating about the possibility of withdrawing the U.S. from the World Trade Organization, according to an Axios report published Friday morning.

Economic advisers challenge the president when he voices this idea, and no policy has been put forward to start that process, Axios reported. Sources told the news outlet that Mr. Trump views the WTO as organized by trade allies to “screw” the U.S.

An anonymous source told Axios, “He’s [threatened to withdraw] 100 times. It would totally [screw] us as a country.”

A withdraw from the international trading body would mark yet another step in his hard-line trade policy, which has slapped tariffs on the European Union, China and Canada. Mr. Trump has repeatedly called for a tougher stance on trade alliances since his 2016 presidential campaign.
