ST. LOUIS (AP) - St. Louis Community College has dropped plans to raise tuition by 5 percent for the coming school year, citing the Missouri Legislature’s decision to abandon former Gov. Eric Greitens’ budget proposal.
Greitens, who resigned effective June 1, had proposed cutting $68 million for higher education. Lawmakers restored the proposed cuts in May.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that St. Louis Community College’s trustees on Thursday announced they were reversing a March decision to increase tuition. The decision will save students an estimated $1.7 million based on projected enrollment.
Gov. Mike Parson, who took over for Greitens, is set to sign off on the overall $28.3 billion budget blueprint in a formal ceremony Friday.
