STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) - A northeast Mississippi hospital is partnering with the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
Oktibbeha County Hospital Regional Medical Center and the university hospital system announced the affiliation Tuesday. The publicly-owned Starkville hospital also considered links to Baptist Memorial Health Services of Memphis, Tennessee, and Tupelo-based North Mississippi Health Services.
UMMC spokesman Marc Rolph says no money is being exchanged.
Rolph says the university hospital will help its partner adopt a new electronic records system. The university also hopes to eventually train medical residents and fellows in Starkville, and could provide access to specialty care there.
UMMC already stations a medical helicopter at the nearby Golden Triangle Regional Airport.
The university also has partnerships with North Mississippi Medical Center, Meridian’s Anderson Hospital, Gulfport’s Memorial Hospital and Tennessee’s Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
