SEATTLE (AP) - The Port of Seattle will pay $500,000 to its longtime lawyer to leave the agency after investigating an internal workplace complaint against him.
The Seattle Times reported that port commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday to let go of general counsel Craig Watson, who has worked at the port for 28 years.
A memo to commissioners says the recent complaint was investigated but that the incident was insufficient to support firing a longtime employee. But Port executive director Stephen Metruck wrote that he and leaders have lost trust and confidence in Watson’s ability to carry out his duties.
Watson told The Times he couldn’t comment because of the agreement. He says he was proud of his years at the port.
The payout equals to about two years’ worth of salary. Watson earned $220,000 in 2015.
