Less than 1 percent of total votes separated Montgomery County executive candidates Marc Elrich and David Blair on Wednesday in results from the previous day’s Democratic primary.

With 98 percent of precincts reporting, Mr. Elrich had 34,729 votes and a 452-vote lead over Mr. Blair.

Mr. Blair has not conceded, however, stating on Twitter that the race is too close to call.

Mr. Elrich said he is waiting for provisional and absentee ballots to be counted.

An estimated 15,000 absentee ballots remain to be counted.

The winner will face Republican Robin Ficker on the ballot in November in a county that traditionally routinely elects Democrats.

Mr. Blair was the chief executive officer for Catalyst Health Solutions.

Mr. Elrich is a County Council member who is term-limited.
