PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Brown University’s president says she’s deeply concerned about how the U.S. Supreme Court decision upholding President Donald Trump’s ban on travel from several mostly Muslim countries will impact international students and scholars.
Christina Paxson said Wednesday she worries the ruling will be used to prevent them from going to American universities to contribute to research, discovery and innovation.
A sharply divided Supreme Court upheld Trump’s ban Tuesday, rejecting a challenge that it discriminated against Muslims or exceeded his authority.
Paxson says the visa system should account for international students and scholars’ significant contributions.
More than 20 students from countries included in the ban studied at the Ivy League university in Providence during the last academic year.
The university is working with incoming students who haven’t yet traveled to the U.S.
