BRATTLEBORO, Vt. (AP) - Nurses at the Brattleboro Retreat psychiatric hospital say recent schedule changes are a “direct violation” of their labor contract.

The Brattleboro Reformer reports about 100 members of the United Nurses and Allied Professionals Union participated in an informational picket Tuesday at the Brattleboro Common.

Incoming UNAP Unit 1 president Sy Creamer says the schedule changes came in the middle of contract negotiations. The UNAP said in a press release the administrators changed schedules without consulting staff or discussing the overhaul with the union.

Brattleboro Retreat Vice President for Development and Communications Konstantin von Krusenstiern says the hospital changed schedules after conducting a study. Von Krusenstiern says employees are welcome to swap shifts.

The hospital employs 870 people and is the largest employer in Windham County.
