OPINION:
President Donald Trump sent out a clearly jubilant tweet in the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold his administration’s travel ban.
“SUPREME COURT UPHOLDS TRUMP TRAVEL BAN,” he wrote. “Wow!”
Wow indeed.
Seventeen months of litigation, down the tubes for the left.
“The text says nothing about religion,” wrote Chief Justice John Robert Jr., for the majority in the 5-4 ruling.
In other words: This was not the “Muslim ban” the left, for so many long months of legal challenge, kept insisting.
What a smackdown for Democrats.
Not only has the left made a whole fundraising drive out of fighting this White House’s attempt to tighten borders and prevent those from terror-tied nations from having unfettered access to our country.
But the left has also banked its upcoming elections on immigration.
Without the help of the courts, the left’s call-to-open-border-activist-arms pretty much crumbles. How can they sue their way to open borders now?
This ruling is a clear win for Republicans — a clear vindication for Trump, whose campaign rhetoric, the high court found, had been unfairly applied to his White House border policy days. Apparently, and thanks to this ruling, it seems even a presidential candidate is entitled to free speech.
That the ruling was only 5-4, however, with the Democratic-appointees on the court voting in essence against the ban, shows just how tight the divide is in our political system right now.
Look at it this way, America: We’re just about one court voice away from open borders.
Keep that in mind while heading to the polls this November.
