MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Democrats running for governor are pouncing on President Donald Trump’s bashing of Harley-Davidson and Gov. Scott Walker’s refusal to criticize the president over it.
Trump tweeted Tuesday that if Harley moves production overseas to avoid tariffs, “it will be the beginning of the end - they surrendered, they quit!”
Madison Mayor Paul Soglin is one of eight Democrats looking for a chance to take on Walker. Soglin says, “Wisconsin needs a governor who says Donald Trump is a dangerous idiot on every issue from immigration to trade policy. I am saying it.”
Tony Evers says Walker and Trump are “doubling down on their wrong-headed approach.” He’s questioning whether Walker will attend Trump’s planned fundraiser in Wisconsin on Thursday.
Mike McCabe says Wisconsin needs a “strong governor who will stand up for the best interests of our state when the federal government engages in such destructive policies.”
