CAMP VERDE, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say one southbound lane of Interstate 17 has been reopened after brush fires burning near Camp Verde closed the highway in both directions.

Arizona Department of Transportation officials say I-17 was closed about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday between State Routes 260 and 169 on the way from the Phoenix area to Cottonwood and Sedona.

U.S. Forest Service officials say two small brush fires still are burning along I-17 south of State Route 260.

They say the cause of both fires is under investigation.

There’s no estimate yet for I-17 to fully reopen.

Camp Verde is located about 90 miles (144 kilometers) north of Phoenix.
