Prosecutor Angela Alsobrooks won the Democratic Party’s nomination for Prince George’s County executive Tuesday, topping a crowded field of eight other Democrats.
Former congresswoman Donna Edwards, who ran second, conceded to Ms. Alsobrooks.
The Republican candidate Jerry Mathis ran unopposed and will face Ms. Alsobrooks, in November in a county that traditionally votes overwhelmingly Democrat.
With 87 percent of precincts reporting, Ms. Alsobrooks Prince George’s County state’s attorney, had 68,343 votes, or 61.9 percent to Ms. Edwards’ 24.1 percent.
Other Democrats in the field were Sam Bogley, Billy Bridges, Lewis Johnson, Michael Kennedy, Paul Monteiro, Anthony Muse and Tommie Thompson.
Ms. Alsobrooks is currently the county prosecutor and says on her campaign website that if she is elected, she intends to build on economic development and help residents find new jobs that are coming to the county.
Ms. Edwards ran in part on raising the minimum wage to $15 per hour.
