Wizards introduce first-round pick Troy Brown Jr.

The Washington Wizards introduced first-round draft pick Troy Brown Jr. Monday afternoon at Capital One Arena.

The 6-foot-7 guard from the University of Oregon met with season-ticket holders before the press conference. It was also revealed that Brown will wear jersey No. 6 with the Wizards, and that the two sides have agreed to the terms of his rookie contract. Brown will be able to sign the deal starting July 1.

Brown said he was excited to play alongside star guards John Wall and Bradley Beal and noted he was aware of the city’s sports culture.

“A lot of people appreciate their sports around here, even more than basketball,” Brown said. “It’s a great culture and I feel like there’s a lot of good things to appreciate about this city. I’m just happy to be here and that everybody’s accepting me.”

Brown is just 18 years old, one of the youngest players in the NBA Draft this year. Although he will need to get acclimated to playing against “grown men,” Brown did not see his youth as a disadvantage.

“For me, playing basketball has never been about age. It’s been about who can play and who can’t play,” he said. “I’ve never used age as an excuse, so it’s kind of hard to really see it now.”

Coming up, Brown and second-round selection Issuf Sanon will participate in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. The Wizards’ first game is against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday, July 6.

“Now we’re back in business,” Brown said. “We had a workout this morning, got another workout later. Now I’m just ready to get into the process and show why I’m here.”
