DETROIT (AP) - There was a heavy police presence as thousands of people packed downtown Detroit and along the Detroit River for the annual Ford Fireworks show.
Officers and K-9 units from several agencies including the Detroit Police Department, Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police and Border Patrol kept eyes on spectators late Monday.
Police also were a presence at the Spirit of Detroit Plaza this year, after a woman was shot there last year. There were no reports of disturbances as the show got underway.
Mostly clear skies gave clear views of the pyrotechnics of the 60th annual show. Parade Company CEO Tony Michaels said this year’s show lasted for about 24 minutes and was “timed to the second.” Past shows have run 15 to 20 minutes.
