SEATTLE (AP) - A 19-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of his girlfriend Karyme Barreto-Sabalza in a suburban Seattle park.

The Seattle Times reported Monday that Giovanni Herrin was also charged with unlawful possession of a firearm in the June 16 incident in Kent.

Charging papers say Herrin lured 18-year-old Barreto-Sabalza into the woods and shot her once in the head. Documents say he’s also accused of taking her purse and cellphone and driving off in her car, then using her bank card at a nearby ATM.

Documents say she and Herrin began dating earlier this year.

Detectives said in charging papers that Herrin claimed another man killed Barreto-Sabalza in order to get back at him. Charging papers say Herrin then tried to pin the homicide on his brother.

Herrin remains jailed in lieu of $1 million bail.
