VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - A Virginia man accused of threatening to kill a congressman has been declared incompetent to stand trial.

The Virginian-Pilot reported Monday that 70-year-old Wallace Godwin was ordered committed to the custody of the attorney general to be hospitalized and further evaluated after authorities say he threatened to kill Rep. Scott Taylor. A judge ordered that the evaluation take no longer than four months.

Court documents say mental health professionals who have evaluated Godwin provide reasonable cause to believe he may be suffering from a mental disease.

Police say Godwin went to Taylor’s Virginia Beach office in March and threatened to kill the congressman and two staff members after an argument over marijuana policy. Taylor wasn’t in the office at the time.
